# Two-hour capture session limit

> How the two-hour context window works and how to extend longer meetings

## How it works

Every time you click **Start Capture**, Earmark begins a session that lasts **two hours (120 minutes)**. This session activates Earmark's auto-capture features, pairing your live meeting conversation with the platform's intelligence layer to transcribe and generate artifacts.

The two-hour window exists to maintain optimal transcription quality and keep file sizes and storage manageable.

## What happens when the limit is reached

When a session hits the two-hour mark:

1. You receive a notification that the session has ended.
2. Transcription pauses automatically.
3. Processing of the meeting artifact begins.

You do **not** need to start a new meeting or open a new window.

## Extending a capture session

If your meeting runs longer than two hours, click **Start Capture** again in the same session window. This resumes transcription immediately — no new meeting or window required. The transcript continues from where it left off, producing a continuous log through the backend. The system tracks this as two segments for performance purposes.

<Tip>
  You can restart capture as many times as needed. This makes workshops, all-day sessions, and other extended meetings fully supported — just restart when prompted.
</Tip>

## Best practices

* **Keep meetings under two hours** for the best AI summary performance.
* **Forgot to restart?** Click **Start Capture** as soon as you notice. There may be a gap in the transcription during the downtime, but all previous content is preserved.
* **Extra-long meetings** — restart capture at each two-hour boundary to maintain continuous coverage.
